WRITE & PUBLISH
WORKSHOP
OBJECTIVES:
This is an inspiring and confidence building workshop suitable for all levels and groups of learners. They would also have adequate ideas to take back to their general learning experience - like writing, research and study skills. Moreover, some students may consider publishing as a possible career for the future.
INTRODUCTION:
The project may take place for one or more days, sessions explore the following:
a. Writing exercises: Learners would be able to write a poem, short story or short play. The school may choose a specific area or genre.
b. The school may choose to explore issues around Study Skills development.
c. The technical aspects of paragraphing, spelling, punctuation marks, tenses, figures of speech and types of sentences will be considered.
d. Learners would be able to choose their titles as the importance of titles will be discussed.
Apart from the writing sessions, the process of publication will also be discussed in the sessions – including, collation of written materials, editing, proofreading; why and how ISBN numbers and BARCODES are included in books, the printing process, etc.
OUTCOME:
It is anticipated that learners will complete manuscripts fit to be published in an Anthology with those of other participants with some editorial support.
COST:
a. One day workshop session for learners: £350 (negotiable).
b. Cost of editing and printing of manuscript (excluding proofreading of written materials by learners): £650 for a hundred copies of the finished copies of the book, bound, laminated with an ISBN number and barcode.
c. Workshop Resources - £100. The school retains the copyright of the anticipated book.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP CO-ORDINATOR:
Isi Agboaye (M.A, PGCE) is a teacher, writer and dramatist. He has taught in many schools in and around Birmingham - helping to inspire and motivate students to enjoy learning. He is CRB cleared; a member of NAWE, The National Association of Writers in Education. NAWE is an organization that supports the development of creative writing of all genres in various schools. He is also a member of The Society of Authors in the UK.
