Poetry Challenge - In March 2007 I organised a sponsored 'Poetry Challenge' for students with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. The challenge involved students learning a poem of their choice by heart and reciting it in front of an audience.
I am the chair of Tongues & Grooves, a voluntary organisation whose aims are to promote collaborations between known and unknown voices in poetry and music. In 2005 we received Arts Council funding to stage a poetry and music concert at The New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth. This was a great success and enabled local people to perform on the same stage with well known poets and musicians.
Photographs of the concert can be seen on our website: www.tongues-and-grooves.org.uk.
I also facilitated the recording and production of two c.d's of poetry and music involving local poets and musicians.

I have known Maggie for a number of hears, as a teaching colleague. During this time, she has taught students with a wide range of support needs, including the teaching of creative writing and literacy skills to a group of adult learners with mental health difficulties, on our 'Fresh Start' programme.
I have been impressed with Maggie's imaginative approach to teaching creative writing. She has an ability to encourage learners to access and develop their own creative skills and to facilitate them to produce written work of a high quality. This was particularly apparent with the adult learners with mental health difficulties. I would have no hesitation in recommending Maggie to teach creative writing.
